HARKAWAY LODGE VELVET

Australian Highland Pony Mare

7/11/93

Sire: Barrymoor Dorian

Dam: Ballantrae Crusheen (Connemara)

Bred & Owned by Julia Grave, Victoria

Velvet was a red dun colour but after droping her foal coat she was an unusual mouse dun body colour with white mane and tail. I have since been told she is most likely a very rare triple dilute carrying the Buckskin, Mouse Dun and Taffy gene. Her dam Crusheen was an unusual dappled dun colour by a yellow dun stallion by out of a Taffy mare.

As she was so unusual in colour I decided to show her as a youngster. I had her registered with the National Buckskin Society and later with the Australian Saddle Pony Association.

She never grew very big, maturing around 12.2hh. She is a super saddle pony and has excelled under saddle in the showring and in Pony Dressage.

In 2003 she had her first foal by the Highland stallion Taranganba MacAdam. A chestnut Taffy filly, Harkaway Lodge Tartan Lass.

Velvet has now returned to saddle again and has been competiting in Dressage.
