HARKAWAY LODGE GINGER

Purebred Highland mare

11/11/95

Sire: Barrymoor Dorian

Dam: Taranganba Diantha

Bred & owned by Julia Grave, Victoria

Ginger is a lovely yellow dun mare with no white markings and stands nearly 14.1hh. She has had an extensive show and competition career and is now a brood mare, having produced one colt foal to date, Harkaway Lodge Kenloch by Taranganba MacAdam and is currently in foal again to Barrymoor Mercury.

Her show career started early with APSB Victorian Branch foal show where she placed 2nd in the led Mountain & Moorland female class.  Later as a yearling filly she was 2nd & Reserve Champion at the APSB Youngstock show in 1997.

As a 2yo she did four shows with various placing's.  Her best performance was 1st & Champion at the APSB Youngstock show in the "Other Breed" section.  As a 3yo she competed at 5 shows, her best results at the Royal Melbourne show where she won the Highland filly class and was 1st & Champion at the Gippsland branch APSB show in December of 1998.

In October 1999 Ginger was broken in to saddle and just did some light schooling.  She did not get ridden much for the next year and started her showing career under saddle in late 2001.  By this stage she had matured quite a bit and did not look quite so gangly as she did as a young horse.  She turned out to be very talented under saddle, with natural balance and rhythm.  I also started her at some small dressage competitions where she started to place but was still finding her way around a dressage arena.  At her first season under saddle she took out 9 championships in both led and ridden classes.  She is also registered with the National Buckskin Society and was the Reserve Hi-Point Led mare for the 2001-02 season.

In the 2002-3 season she gained her Bronze award with the National Buckskin Society for Led and Ridden Buckskin classes and her Silver award for Open competition.  She was Reserve Champion Highland female at the Victorian Stud Pony show and Champion Highland at Barastoc Horse of the Year show.  She also did a stint on TV, starring on "Harry's Practice" for their segment on Highland ponies and was ridden by vet Katrina Warren.

Late in 2002 she was placed in foal to the visiting stallion Taranganba MacAdam from South Australia (now in Victoria).  She produced a colt foal (now gelded), Kenloch in November 2003 and has again been placed back in foal to Barrymoor Mercury and is due on October 2005
